The Study on the Relation among Prorlem Drinking and Criminal Acts

Abstract
This study was designed to analyze the relation among personality, problem drinking and criminal acts.
The subjects in this study were selected from among criminals ( male, N = 550 ) in the detention house of Uijeongbu Public Prosecutors Office.
AUDIT(Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test) was used to measure the proportions of problem drinking, and PDQ R (Personality Disorder Questionnaire-Revised) was used for the specific character.
The results are as follows:
1. The problem drinking of them is 10.6%, Alcoholic dependence rate is 5.4%, Harmful alcohol rate 14.8%, Hazardous alcohol rate 51.5%. Generally the whole rate of problem drinking is high.
2. Drinking has an effect on criminal patterns (p <0.01> ), especially violence has something close to do with drinking.
3. 20.6% of criminals has the history of problem drinking family.
4. They have very strong correlation between the tendency of negative personality and the measure of problem drinking ( p <0.01> ).
5. Those who have the history of problem drinking family including their relatives are statistically very significant in the tendency of personality obstacle.( p <001> )
6. Personality obstacle of thieves is very negative, the second is the rest of criminal acts, the third is imposters, and the fourth is violence¡¯s.
In Conclusion, the majority of criminals have personality obstacles. The more they have this, the stronger they have the tendency of problem drinking.
That is to say, the higher the degree of problem drinking is, the closer they will be connected with crimes.
